ULI Charlotte hosted the ULI Fall Meeting Review with highlights from the 2014 ULI Fall Meeting in New York featuring tours of some of the greatest real estate and cultural projects in NYC; lessons learned from industry leaders and beyond; and real results from real projects.
Panelists included:
Bird Anderson is an Executive Vice President and head of Homebuilder Banking for the Commercial Real Estate Group at Wells Fargo
Bridget Dixon is Planning Coordinator for the City of Charlotte
Steve McClure is the President of Spectrum Residential, Inc.
Rob Cochran (moderator) is the head of Cassidy Turley’s North Carolina Capital Markets group
Some of the highlights include:
- Creativity, adaptability, and flexibility are keys to successfully developing complex projects and mixed use situations
- Millennials are a very large group that have some distinct preferences, but in many respects housing choices follow life pattern status (marriage, children, etc.) as Gen Xers and Baby Boomers and are looking for similar amenities
- Public Private Partnerships are becoming more critical to get today’s complex developments completed and actually can enhance the resulting project
- Know your partners
- While on a vastly different scale, many of the trends in new development in NY are happening in Charlotte as well
- Real estate market still strong and we probably have another 3-5 years before the cycle fully turns
- We are still going to see multi-family being built.
