The convergence of the rising millennial generation and soon to retire baby boomers–half the U.S. population–is creating pent up market demand for walkable urban communities.
The real estate industry is re-tooling how it designs, plans, regulates and finances to serve this pent up demand. Public policy needs to promote this kind of development that includes smart growth, balanced investment in all transportation and mobility modes and strategy planning for economic development and transportation investment.
Chris Leinberger, Nonresident Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington DC and metropolitan land use strategist and developer who focuses on transforming and suburban downtowns and other places into walkable urban centers, will present to civic and public sector leaders in Charlotte on August 13th.
A local response panel will follow Leinberger’s presentation.
