Reforming America’s Housing Finance Market: The Administration’s Proposal
The issuance by the U.S. Treasury of its long-awaited paper on reforming government-sponsored entities (GSEs) on February 11 has substantially changed the playing field for the housing finance reform. ULI fellow, John McIlwain, says it is now clear that underlying these changes is a seismic shift in federal policy away from wholehearted support for homeownership and toward a new and yet to be determined balance between owning and renting.
