In partnership with RCLCO, the ULI Terwilliger Center for Housing released recent survey findings in a new report, Attainable Housing: Challenges, Perceptions, and Solutions. This report covers a largely untold chapter in the story of America’s housing affordability challenge.
In most areas of the country, there is a near disappearance of modestly priced new for-sale homes intended for moderate-income working families—a property segment identified by the Terwilliger Center as “attainable housing.” This report examines this growing issue, assessing the market opportunity, laying out the barriers to homebuilders responding to it, giving an overview of ULI members’ outlook on the space, and offering strategies for delivering to this market segment in the future.
