RECAP: CoffeeTalk discussing Montford Park
September 12, 2016
On September 8, ULI members gathered to the newly branded Montford Park, near Park Road and Woodlawn. A panel moderated by Dave Crabtree of Gensler, included Rachel Russell, Milhaus (formerly with Grubb Properties), Adam Williams, Legacy Real Estate Advisors and Kenny Smith, Charlotte City Council. Some of the quick facts we heard includes:
- The median household income in the Montford Park area is above $125,000.
- With the new brand, they are striving to maintain a local feel to differentiate from Uptown, SouthEnd.
- What differentiates the neighborhood from NoDa/Plaza Midwood?
- Seen as a very inclusive neighborhood (and stats support it). Their motto is “everyone is welcome
- A lot of neighborhood participation helps maintain the local feel.
- Truly serves as a neighborhood place, majority of the traffic is from local neighbors and not as much of people outside a three-mile radius.
- Safety (pedestrian and personal) 63 police officers will be added in the upcoming year to patrol the neighborhoods (throughout Charlotte). Consider volunteering at your local precinct – it can put more officers on the road (and less behind a desk).
- Long term – completion of the Greenway in the next 5 years (which is fully funded and plans for new pedestrian bridge from Greenway to Park Road Shopping Center.
CoffeeTalk is a ULI Charlotte members’ only event held throughout the year.
