Nominations sought for 2018 Charlotte Sustainability Awards
Sustain Charlotte is seeking nominations for the 2018 Charlotte Sustainability Awards. Do you know a person, project, plan, business, or nonprofit that deserves to be honored for advancing smart growth and sustainability in Charlotte? Nominate them for a Charlotte Sustainability Award! Entries will be evaluated by a group of Sustain Charlotte members based on the extent to which they meet one or more of these criteria (as applicable):
- Engages the community in planning/identifying challenges and their solutions
- Uses land efficiently, building up rather than out
- Considers future adjacent uses
- Improves resilience to natural hazards
- Respects community character, design and historic features
- Creates or enhances a vibrant mix of uses (residential, retail, office)
- Increase the range of housing options available (size, type, affordability, location)
- Utilizes low-impact or regenerative design techniques and materials
- Considers existing or planned development and/or other infrastructure
- Protects or enhances open space, farmland, parks, or critical environmental areas
- Improves air quality by reducing air pollution
- Uses renewable energy and/or promotes energy efficiency
- Strengthens the local economy
- Enhances a sustainable food system
- Encourages or incorporates creative solutions to reduce waste
- Creates or enhances sustainable transportation choices (biking, walking, transit)
- Integrates infrastructure that reduces the impact of stormwater runoff, supports water conservation and/or protects aquatic habitats
All nominees will be announced mid-March and winners will be revealed at Sustain Charlotte’s 7th annual event honoring those who are working toward sustainability and smart growth. The awards will take place Wednesday, April 25 from 6-9 p.m. at CenterStage@NoDa – 2315 N. Davidson.
Nominations can be made online before March 7 by visiting sustaincharlotte.org/awards. The entries will be judged by an independent panel of local Sustain Charlotte members. Nonprofits, neighborhood organizations, academic institutions/schools, businesses, and government agencies in the Greater Charlotte area are all welcome to apply. Self-nominations are welcome.
