A Letter from Philip Payne: ULI Charlotte taking a lead in preeminent issues in real estate
November 28, 2012
On Monday, December 3rd, ULI Charlotte is co-hosting a showing of the film “Carbon Nation” at the Knight Theater. The showing will begin at 4:00 pm and will be followed by a question and answer session led by Peter Byck, the film’s director and producer. The program will end at 6:30 pm.
The Trustees of ULI have stated that “climate change, land use and energy are the preeminent issues facing real estate today” and that it is imperative that ULI take a leadership role in addressing these issues. An essential part of this leadership role is for ULI to facilitate discussion and collaboration among the various groups that have an interest in these issues. As part of this effort, Peter Byck, the director and producer of the film “Carbon Nation”, was invited to be a speaker at two sessions held at ULI’s Fall Meeting in Denver. Both of these sessions received among the highest ratings in participant surveys conducted after the meeting. Peter’s message is positive, pragmatic and economically driven. His film can serve as an excellent basis and catalyst for discussion, debate and action.
Having been the moderator of one of the sessions in which Peter appeared in Denver, I can assure you that he is thoughtful, informative, engaging and entertaining.
ULI Charlotte is fortunate to be the first district council for which Peter has agreed to appear for a showing of “Carbon Nation” and post-showing discussion. The power of the film to bring disparate groups together is evidenced by the showing being co-hosted by the Garrison Institute, the US Green Building Council and ULI. The showing is open to the public and is free. It represents not only an opportunity for Charlotte ULI members to learn more about the issues of climate change, land use and energy, but for ULI to expand its reach and influence by exposing non-ULI members to a high quality ULI sponsored program.
I encourage you to attend and to invite anyone you believe may have an interest in these issues to come as your guest. Customers, clients, attorneys, bankers, accountants, architects, planners, government officials and administrators, teachers, students, contractors, sub-contractors, service providers, friends and family are all welcome. Our goal is to have as diverse of a a group as possible and thereby to stimulate and promote awareness, dialogue, and action in Charlotte.
For your convenience, here is an e-mailable invitation that you are free to use: carbon nation flyer e-mail pdf
I look forward to seeing you at the showing.
