    Liz Babson

    Director, Charlotte DOT

    As Director of the Charlotte Department of Transportation (CDOT), Liz has more than 25 years' experience as a transportation engineer and spent the last 20 years of her career with CDOT. Liz is a Charlotte native and attended UNC-Charlotte, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and later attended Pfeiffer University and earned a Master's in Business Administration. She has worked in the public sector for both state and local transportation agencies. In her role as CDOT Transportation Director, she is responsible for the department's 425 employees and a transportation system that consists of more than 5,300 lane miles of streets, 850 traffic signals, 218 structures including bridges, 200,000 traffic control signs, 2,300 miles of sidewalk and over 190 miles of bikeways. Liz recently received her national ADA Coordinator Training Certification. She has spent much of her career advancing ADA improvements in the public right-of-way through policy work and project development in Charlotte in addition to her national work serving on the National Committee for Uniform Traffic Control Devices. Transportation safety has also been an area of focus as she and her team have led the citywide effort to make Charlotte a Vision Zero city through the development of the first Vision Zero action plan that identifies strategies to make Charlotte streets safer and have no fatalities or serious injuries by 2030. Liz and her team have received national and state-wide recognition for their work on creating complete streets and their continued work on helping to transform Charlotte into a more walkable and bicycle-friendly city. CDOT awards include: Charlotte Walks American Planning Association - National Planning Achievement Silver Award North Carolina America Planning Association - Marvin Collins Award Protected Crosswalks/Leading Pedestrian Intervals – North Carolina Section Institute of Transportation Engineers – Project of the Year Award 2016 Urban Street Design Guidelines - National EPA Award for Smart Growth Achievement Designated as a "Walk-Friendly Community" – Bronze level Designated as a "Bike-Friendly Community" – League of American Bicyclists – Bronze level Open Streets 704 – 2018 Best Community Event/Festival by Charlotte Magazine

    Darlene Heater

    Executive Director, University City Partners

    Darlene Heater Executive Director Darlene Heater is the Executive Director for University City Partners, which envisions and implements strategies and actions to drive University City’s long term economic vitality as a center for employment, living, education, commerce and entertainment. Heater is a graduate of The Ohio State University. She has held roles in the public sector for nearly twenty years. Prior to her role at University City Partners, she was the Vice President of Neighborhood Development and Sustainability at Charlotte Center City Partners and Director of Strategic Partnerships for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. She worked in the private sector before Heater has worked on transformational projects such as the Charlotte 2020 Vision Plan, which serves as the blueprint for development for Center City, Envision Charlotte, Uptown’s sustainability initiative, and South End’s Good To Great vision plan. She has built strong relationships with municipal partners at all levels and elected officials while actively engaging in the communities she has served. Originally from Kent, Ohio, she has resided in the University area for seventeen years with her husband and their two children. Both of their children have ties to UNC Charlotte. Their daughter Lyndsay is an UNC Charlotte Bioinformatics grad student alum and their son Nicholaus is an undergraduate student.

    Andy Warren

    Andrew Warren, Andy, currently serves as the PwC’s Director of Real Estate Research. As the Director of Real Estate Research, and is responsible for monitoring all aspects of commercial and residential real estate, including space market fundamentals, capital market trends, regulatory changes and operational developments. For the past eight years, Andy has led PwC’s participation in the development and production of the Emerging Trends in Real Estate publication. Andy is a frequent speaker on issues affecting the real estate market and has also authored numerous articles for internal clients and national real estate publications. Andy also forecasts market performance for PwC’s “Real Estate Investor Survey”. Andy has over 30 years of experience in all aspect of commercial and residential real estate research. Andy has performed and managed real estate fundamental analysis and forecasting, portfolio construction, and buy/sell decisions for both debt and equity clients. Prior to assuming his current role, Andy served as the Managing Director of Real Estate Research for Principal Global Investors, a top 10 institutional real estate manager in the U.S. At Principal, Andy held a progressive level of analyst and management positions over his 25 year career and served as a voting and advisory member on a multiple real estate debt and equity investment funds. Andy has earned the CFA designation and is a Counselor of Real Estate. He is also an active member of the Urban Land Institute Research Forum as well as a participating member of ICSC, NCREIF, NAIOP, the Appraisal Institute and the CCIM institute.
