RECAP – Personal & Professional Resiliency (#Resiliency)
September 15, 2015
On September 10, 2015, the ULI Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI) hosted Jane McIntyre for a fireside chat with Sonja Gantt and too these leadership nuggets from the program:
- As a leader, you should focus 70% of your time on what you do best, 20% on something new, and 10% on what you do the least well (and delegate it out).
- While 75% of US presidents were in the bottom of their schools class ranking; 50% of millionaires never finished college; majority of CEO’s had a C level GPA, they all had passion for what they did.
- Jane’s best advice from a mentor: Don’t ever “not make a change” or try something new that when you are older, on your patio drinking tea, you will regret not doing (Michael Rose).
- You are in control of your happiness no one else is – She chose to be happy!
- Recruiting/Hiring advice: You should hire people that are happy in their jobs.
- What is Resiliency: When you feel like you cannot keep going, surround yourself with positive people and don’t give up on yourself!
Jane McIntyre is the retired Executive Director of the United Way of the Carolinas. Sonja Gantt is a news anchor on WCNC-TV.
