Recap: Real Estate and the Future of Connectivity
May 26, 2015
ULI Charlotte and Google Fiber hosted a program on May 21, 2015 which proved that as technology continues to advance it continues to effect Charlotte real estate and our business. After presentations from Ron Kimble (City of Charlotte), Lee Bienstock (Google Fiber) and Brad Grovich (Nest Labs), we heard from a panel of real estate professionals: Tyler Niess (Crescent Communities) Greg McDonald (Greystar) Ian Davis (Davis | Craig | Taylor) and Peter Albers (Google Fiber) with the consensus that young residents of multi-family expect cutting edge technology – “if it’s not there, they aren’t going to live there.” Today, 41% of US homes are mobile only (meaning no home phone), the demand and importance of fast AND reliable internet is non-negotiable. The number of Internet-connected devices will grow seven times in the next eight years to over 75 billion devices, continuing to drive the demand for ultra-high-speed internet and forcing real estate developers to preserve their options as they build. A special thank you to Jenn Stewart of Holder Construction for providing this recap.
