Panelists play an essential role in the success of ULI Advisory Services panels (and local Technical Assistance Panels). They bring their diverse professional experiences from across the world as well as their skill sets to help communities develop creative solutions to the most complex land use and real estate challenges. Advisory Services panels allow panelists to give back and to meet other innovative colleagues from around the world.
Recently, two ULI Charlotte members were highlighted as fantastic panelists for National Advisory Services Panel.
Alysia Osborne, the Historic West End Director for the Charlotte City Center Partners, says being a panelist is TRANSFORMATIVE. You get to connect with different ULI members, the intellectual boot camp aspect of it breaks up the monotony of your current job, and you immerse yourself in a new place with new information and new people to come up with a really creative, innovative solution. Lastly, the opportunity to explore other cities and help them with their challenges and to see how we all have a similar toolbox in terms of how we solve problems. Helping other cities out and looking at how you can apply what you know to other communities was one of the most rewarding things for me.

Phil Payne, the Principal and Chief Executive Officer of Ginkgo Residential, says being a panelist is ENLIGHTENING. I find it intellectually rewarding to spend a week with a group of people, all experts in their respective fields, most of whom I’ve never met before. Together, you look at a problem and hear how people with different backgrounds and perspectives understand it. From that cross-disciplinary experience, you learn and open up your field of vision so that you have a much broader view when you go to look at your next problem yourself.
