While the summer quiets down with everyone on vacation, activity at ULI Charlotte is far from quiet. Community impact initiatives are being coordinated, programs planned, and engagement is high. Since there is a lot in the works now, I want to take a moment to highlight some of the activities ULI Charlotte is involved:
- Hip Hop Architecture Camp – The ULI Charlotte Advisory Board continues to support the outreach to increase access and diversity in our industry. We continue outreach to middle school youth showing them avenues for future careers and community involvement. On August 5-9, up to 40 students will work together to develop a hip-hop song about our community, learn some 3D modeling skills and engage with the community. A month after the even, we will host a special discussion and viewing of the video. If you are 45 years of age and under, we encourage you to volunteer for the camp (10-2pm on each of the days). To express interest in volunteering one of the days, log into the ULI Navigator.
- Technical Assistance Panels (TAPs) – One the unique benefits of ULI is the diversity of our members perspectives and passion for creating thriving communities. This Fall, ULI Charlotte plans to address a number of topics through TAPC such TOD, corridor development, and economic development. TAPs (provided for a small fee to the sponsor) includes a broad and impartial view of the key objectives around land use. ULI volunteers serve on the panels to offer their unique perspectives. For more information about TAPs and past reports, click here.
- Programs and Symposiums – Beginning in August, ULI Charlotte will host a variety of symposiums and programs. Plan to attend to learn and connect. Check out the Event Calendar – limited space is available for many of the programs.
- ULI Fall Meeting – The meeting will be held September 18-21 in Washington, DC so is a quick flight away. More details on the program/registration is at www.fall.uli.org. If you attend the meeting, meet us at the Carolinas Reception at the Fall Meeting (Thursday, 9/29 at 5:30-7:00pm) – more information coming soon. If you aren’t able to get to DC, get some highlights of the program during our Fall Meeting Rewind on October 3.
And there is more: The Women’s Leadership Initiative, Young Leaders and NEXT all have initiatives planned for the Fall. Watch for more details. If you are interested in getting more involved in ULI Charlotte, check out the volunteer opportunities here. Watch for a local project case studies in the Fall, as well as a webinar or two.
We look forward to seeing you at an event or getting more involved soon.
