Advisory Service Panel Offers Recommendations for SouthPark
March 18, 2016
At a presentation in the Charlotte City Council Chambers, the ULI National Advisory Panel offered recommendations to the City, County and Corporate sponsors about making SouthPark a thriving community. They suggest “If you design a place for cars, you will get more cars. If you design for people, you get more people.” SouthPark needs to embrace walkability, connectivity and stitching it together with great public places. Public private partnerships should be considered for SouthPark – while we have done them in other areas of the City, we have not in the SouthPark area. The area is a vibrant engine for Charlotte and one of the top shopping attractions in North Carolina. It needs a leader and a vision (as it is fractioned now). One panelist noted that we can spend money on transportation to get workforce to the area or we can consider spending it to create affordable housing for the workforce through potential density bonuses.
