Hampton Roads: Reimagine the Future of Fort Monroe
May 30, 2018
Fort Monroe is on a new journey and the impact to our community, region, and borders beyond has the potential to generate significant benefits for preserving the property and contributing to the quality of life in coastal Virginia.
Glenn Oder, Executive Director of Fort Monroe Authority will share the history of the property and discuss new opportunities as they “Reimagine the Future of Fort Monroe”. With unique 360 degree views of the Chesapeake Bay and the historic stone ramparts as the backdrop, the FMA is preparing to present approximately 100 acres and 900,000 sq.ft. of existing buildings as a future mixed-use development opportunity.
After the presentation, site tours of the property will allow you to experience cool breezes off the Chesapeake Bay, the ambiance of tree lined streets, and visit historic buildings strategically selected to provide a glimpse of the opportunities at Fort Monroe.
Development Opportunities:
Fort Monroe Authority is preparing to send out requests for qualifications and statements of interest to developers, seeking to offer long-term leases, from 40 to 99 years, on the commercial buildings it owns.
The first round of requests is expected to go out sometime in June. Nearly all of the commercial properties — about 900,000 square feet and about 98 acres of land — in the Historic District, the Northgate area and Inner Fort will be considered for the RFQs.
The authority would also offer up sections of Reeder Circle apartments, which has both occupied and unoccupied units, if a developer showed interest.
