Top Story
As I came into the office of Chair for ULI Charlotte in July 2012, we were reeling from the energy of the ULI Spring Meeting in Charlotte. Now, just over a year later, we are still feeling the energy and have capitalized on it with a number of new initiatives.
As a District Council, we have evolved into an organization that offers programming, participates in community building, and is looked at as a leader in a number of the ULI circles. Our key goals for 2012-13 were to engage members as volunteers and participants; build a sustainable District Council; and to create a more intimate ULI experience.
Here are some of the highlights of the year as we worked to achieve these goals.
- Regionalism – creating broader opportunities throughout the Carolinas;
- Women’s Leadership Initiative – targeted outreach to expand our impact and procure future leaders in land use;
- Executive Leadership Series – engaging “C-suite” executives at the District Council level;
- Student Fellowship – building on our relationship with UNCC and helping develop our future leaders;
- RealityCheck2050 – making a critical impact on how we look at land use in the future;
- Membership – we are growing again: ULI Charlotte is 517 members strong.

These initiatives have resulted in more members-only meetings, placing more value on membership and participation. With future opportunities, we determined the next several years will build upon developing leadership succession, partnering with other organizations to further the ULI mission, keeping ULI relevant to the ever changing environment, and communicating to our members all the initiatives and activities we are presently doing.
So, during the final year of my term as Chair, we plan to focus on building on this success, communication, leadership and delivering the best value to our members. I encourage you to get involved on a committee, attend a meeting, and make an impact in our community. Contact us to learn how you can be an active ULI member.
Thank you to each of our sponsors, members, and volunteers for your support in money and time. ULI Charlotte is strong because of you!
