Legacy Awards

Periodically, ULI Charlotte will honor an individual or company from the Charlotte Region real estate community who exemplifies the mission of ULI and who, in addition to a commitment to real estate, has given back to the community through demonstrated civic, charitable and philanthropic endeavors. This award is in recognition of positive stewardship in our community, land use and the built environment.

Nominations are solicited from the ULI membership and a Committee of Jurors is convened to vote on the Award winner.

Key Purpose
  • Recognition of ULI and the award recipient as a positive impact on our community
  • To provide insight into the award recipient’s part in community growth
  • Provide a charitable contribution to the community
2008 Legacy Award Winner

At a luncheon on March 12, 2008, the Charlotte District Council of the Urban Land Institute (ULI Charlotte) announced that Martin R. Cramton, Jr., AICP, former planning director of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Planning Commission, received the second ULI Legacy Award.

The evolution of Charlotte is testament to Cramton’s vision, as Charlotte continues to be one of the fastest growing cities in America as well as one of the most livable cities. “Martin’s influential vision and leadership helped develop and sustain the successful transformation of the Charlotte community,” said Thomas B. “Skeet” Harris, Jr., chair of ULI Charlotte. “We are honored to present him with this award.

2005 Legacy Award Winner

During a luncheon presentation on Friday, October 7, 2005, at Bank of America Stadium, Ken Lewis, former CEO and president of Bank of America, received the inaugural Legacy Award on behalf of the bank.

Peter Rummell, ULI Foundation president and CEO and president of the St. Joe Company, and ULI Charlotte Chair A. Michael Burnett, presented the award to Mr. Lewis. Bank of America demonstrated a vision and initiative that extended beyond their employees, their customers and their vendors. Their combined efforts have helped define our region. ULI Charlotte was proud to present the Legacy Award to Bank of America for all that they do for the Charlotte region.
