YLG members get a first look at the new annex and alternation of the Charles R. Jonas Courthouse.
Originally constructed in 1915, the Courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and this project involves a major renovation / modernization to the existing 134,428-sf Courthouse and the addition of a new 198,000-sf Annex.
While maintaining the stringent preservation standards set forth by the NC State Historic Preservation Office, the renovation addresses the upgrade or replacement of building systems including the building envelope, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and life safety systems.
The projects will combine to provide a total of 10 courtrooms: three District, two Senior District, one District Special Proceedings, two Magistrate, and two Bankruptcy courtrooms. Additionally, space will be provided for the US Circuit, District, and Magistrate Courts; US Marshals Federal Protection Service; US Probation Office; US Public Defenders; US Attorney’s Office; and the GSA’s Public Buildings Service. The project will be an anchor for revitalization and future development in Charlotte’s Central Business District.
The tour will be led by Jenkins Peer Architects’ Zach Leitner.
The event is for ULI members ages 34 & under only.
