RECAP: Symposium: Who’s Moving In? Who’s Moving Out?
On October 26, 2016, ULI Charlotte, along with the Greater Charlotte Apartment Association, Charlotte Regional Realtors® Association, The Urban Institute, and The Charlotte Chamber, partnered to host this symposium. More than 200 people attended to hear more about the ongoing growth of our community.
Executive Summary:
Charlotte’s population changes daily as new individuals arrive and others leave. Between 2014 and 2015, the Charlotte metropolitan region received more than 150,000 new arrivals with more than 30,000 births and 123,000 in-migrants. At the same time, nearly 108,000 individuals left the region: 19,000 deaths and 89,000 out-migrants.
The U.S. population grew by 4.1% between 2010 and 2015. North Carolina’s population grew faster than the national average, increasing by 5.3% over this time period, while South Carolina grew by 5.9%. In Charlotte, growth was even more pronounced. The metro population grew by more than 209,000 residents or 9.4%.
